Frequently Asked Questions

What time are your worship services? We have services on Saturdays at 5:00pm, and on Sundays at 9:00 and 10:30am.
You'll find more information about worship at BUMC under "
Celebrate".

When is Sunday School offered? There is Sunday School for all ages at 10:30 on Sundays. During the 9:00 service, our children come to worship with their parents or may leave for Children's Church at the beginning of the sermon. The first Sunday of
the month, special holiday Sundays, and summer months are Family Worship for K-12th grade students. Sunday School is not held and families are encouraged to enjoy worship together.

What about child care during worship services? Promiseland, our infant& preschool ministry, provides competent and safe child care for all worship services. Please contact the church office if you ever have a question or concern about child care.

May I attend your services or events dressed casually? Of course. By most standards, BUMC is a relaxed and casual church. Saturday evening LifeSign is a "come as you are" service; during the summer you'll find most worshippers there in shorts and t-shirts.
Sunday morning services are mixed -- you'll see worshippers in suits and ties next to others in blue jeans. Please dress however you are most comfortable.

Where does your church stand on social issues? Our church is a United Methodist congregation, and we are proud of our denomination's keen social conscience. The UMC's Social Principles are available in pamphlet form. Drop by the church and we will be happy to give you a copy, or you may read it online here.

Will we be comfortable if one of us is from a different religious background? You just might be surprised by the number of families who have found that BUMC provides a kind of "meeting ground" for those who have had experiences in other faiths, or
who have never been a part of an organized faith community. We don't expect you to come knowing anything, or prescribing to a certain set of beliefs, but yearning for something of value in life.

Does BUMC have a preschool? BUMC offers pre-school for 3, 4, and 5-year-olds. Burke United Methodist Preschool  (BUMP)
has an excellent reputation in the community. Check it out
here.

What about weddings, baptisms, and funerals for non-members? The church generally provides these types of pastoral functions for both members and non-members, within some parameters. You can find out more in the "Celebrate" section of the website, or by contacting the church office.

Where can I park? Parking in the church's lot is generally ample, but in the event you find the lot temporarily full, additional parking is available at Burke School, diagonally opposite from the church on the corner of Burke Lake Road and Burke Centre Pkwy.
